Simple vs. Color Reaction Time: What's the Difference?
A simple reaction time test has one stimulus and one response — the screen turns green and you click. A color reaction test introduces four possible stimuli and four possible responses. You must perceive the cue, identify which color lit up, select the right action, and execute it. Each extra cognitive step adds latency, which is why color (choice) reaction times run 50–200 ms slower than simple reaction times for the same person.
